One advantage of being an artist is always having stuff to put up on the walls, but even with that said, we artists get bored at looking at our own stuff all the time and even we need easy, cheap, graphic ways to enhance our living spaces. A great way to do this is by using prints. Now prints can be found anywhere, but some of the best can be found in well made books. I was lucky enough to find a very cool book from the 80's at a local book sale, it was only a dollar! and it features movie posters from the beginning of the 20th century (1910 to about the 1940's). There were so many cool posters to pick from!<br />

....also this book had these images in many different sizes...<br />

...and shapes! So it was easy to find one that fit the frame and mat I already had, speaking of which...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

The best place to find frames are at thrift stores. Don't worry about the size, color, or shape! Paint is an easy fix. Either spray paint them or hand paint them. The frame I used was unfinished so it was easy to just quickly brush on a couple coats of craft paint. If the frame has a clear coat either sand it down or spray paint it in a series of layers and thin coats, them seal it yourself with a spray varnish. Also, if you can, buy frames that come with mats. Even art work already in them, you can just tear it out and keep the mat, like I did with this one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN-IofZw88Lx1RpybB5CDvTaFuzGzY0WF1lRdFN7VFGpRBZS249QE4RU-rzhRMkF0AOEMrGq2ezavDo-gnAZteHSOcidlkVZ30sg3QKMNaww91ChCnSHjWum0pZrL-Wx1C7l6dOGLIq8A/s640/blogger-image-148982979.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN-IofZw88Lx1RpybB5CDvTaFuzGzY0WF1lRdFN7VFGpRBZS249QE4RU-rzhRMkF0AOEMrGq2ezavDo-gnAZteHSOcidlkVZ30sg3QKMNaww91ChCnSHjWum0pZrL-Wx1C7l6dOGLIq8A/s320/blogger-image-148982979.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
Once you pick our print, cut it down to size and masking tape it onto our mat. <br />

There you you go, looks pretty good!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyaaMqroyYfjVexCgFtUew9YhSuxBXOrCxGxtkV9C5yt_fqX7JYEwxgmpL74p3g6CSqayazpdwYDToqznL72CDXC04puiU3-cRVxSXxkEya5yAs021l3noOBhIFOgjFZ_pEutKbYLShH8/s640/blogger-image-884158136.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyaaMqroyYfjVexCgFtUew9YhSuxBXOrCxGxtkV9C5yt_fqX7JYEwxgmpL74p3g6CSqayazpdwYDToqznL72CDXC04puiU3-cRVxSXxkEya5yAs021l3noOBhIFOgjFZ_pEutKbYLShH8/s320/blogger-image-884158136.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
...and this is how it looks framed and hanging on the wall. To make it more dramatic, do groupings and place them in a row, or if you're working with multiple sizes and shapes, hang them in a random pattern. Just lay it out on the floor and experiment. You can even trace the outline of each frame onto paper and tape them on the wall until you get the right grouping, this will save you a lot of headache and nail holes!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Books aren't the only place to find awesome prints to frame, this is a print I got from a movie store's going out of business sale. They had thousands of these postcard like movie prints used for advertising the rentals. I got them 20 for a dollar. This frame was a thrift store find also and it was gold and ugly, but I bought it anyway. I spray painted it and added my own hand painted text and it came out pretty cool. This one has glass in it so sorry for the reflection of my bikini clad boobs (ooops)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

This is another movie store sign print. Again with a thrift store frame and a thrift store mat from another frame I had. This mat was, at first glance extremely ugly in its original frame with a really horrible "country kitchen" print but with the right art and frame, it totally changes the whole feel of it. Just goes to show, never let first impressions sway you from buying cheap frames and mats from thrift stores! This one has glass too, sorry for the crappy refection AGAIN!!!<br />

Cooking dinner all by my self...take two... This time I am doing Chili, the easiest, quickest, yet still tasty way I know. I can actually pull this off, started cooking this recipe about 13 years ago, I was a vegetarian and living with my parents who put pork in EVERYTHING and I had to eat sometime so I started cooking this. It takes no culinary skill what so ever. First step....Chop up a green bell pepper, an onion, and a couple cloves of garlic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRA3d6dH58PdbQtON152I5DamTv9Fi1ObGJF5xtNaOTsODvcvAwfQiX1cCEvxCJ5k5D-7jxxekas5zDi8CKiBFujSCteRrROzKRmKJXuLqoYkHHT4_s1rhMO5NZjLgKl7IywyRl_iJKdQ/s640/blogger-image-1915615871.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRA3d6dH58PdbQtON152I5DamTv9Fi1ObGJF5xtNaOTsODvcvAwfQiX1cCEvxCJ5k5D-7jxxekas5zDi8CKiBFujSCteRrROzKRmKJXuLqoYkHHT4_s1rhMO5NZjLgKl7IywyRl_iJKdQ/s320/blogger-image-1915615871.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Heat some olive oil in a pot over medium heat and throw in the garlic, this will infuse the oil with all that garlicky goodness<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9LStjAGDO_lXhKDV_QfVV84Aagpas0YM8bmhipnXt0Fc8NM-N3NVmhLOh5dNtT4fy09Eud34wnxbu5wWVTv8MfgYjqPbFuBiwa1yacdtkVYIgRgzf28ons7u0-mdXcm-cXd4vyYw-33Y/s640/blogger-image--1701974098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9LStjAGDO_lXhKDV_QfVV84Aagpas0YM8bmhipnXt0Fc8NM-N3NVmhLOh5dNtT4fy09Eud34wnxbu5wWVTv8MfgYjqPbFuBiwa1yacdtkVYIgRgzf28ons7u0-mdXcm-cXd4vyYw-33Y/s320/blogger-image--1701974098.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Throw in the pepper and onion and cook till the onions start to become slightly translucent. Now its time for either the meat, if you choose to go that route. Brown it if so. If not just go straight to all the can goods...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmj_8fQy5T1-KiQLxK1OvwmmhAjCakrXoGxby6UvSC9rs4Qiq2B7AiG4SlGoUtzOJ5AsPLwdYqkSg2OhZdu_iQZ1mmcw5j2T3snQvUeW9SOxSVUB72QCLWzBJmHByZOiS13-TVOJClW2c/s640/blogger-image--370568037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmj_8fQy5T1-KiQLxK1OvwmmhAjCakrXoGxby6UvSC9rs4Qiq2B7AiG4SlGoUtzOJ5AsPLwdYqkSg2OhZdu_iQZ1mmcw5j2T3snQvUeW9SOxSVUB72QCLWzBJmHByZOiS13-TVOJClW2c/s400/blogger-image--370568037.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
Here we have a 2 to 2 ratio. 2 cans of beans to two cans of diced tomatoes. This can be your choice, whatever you like. I am into kidney beans and black beans and a mix of fire roasted tomatoes with a can of tomatoes with green chilies. It's up to you<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7TFq556Rby7OEUSJ1iIXsfDDasefryEngfdkggF7H08S7C3dHZJMEMpO_50LjQXFPSFcVSXIxw-N7HplWzy90FSoxhwOmhLR0XYIDg2Z3pMpdSgz3_vvVOMOPjlutJC3k9tV4eacE6CQ/s640/blogger-image-1102811545.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7TFq556Rby7OEUSJ1iIXsfDDasefryEngfdkggF7H08S7C3dHZJMEMpO_50LjQXFPSFcVSXIxw-N7HplWzy90FSoxhwOmhLR0XYIDg2Z3pMpdSgz3_vvVOMOPjlutJC3k9tV4eacE6CQ/s400/blogger-image-1102811545.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
Our can opener broke months ago, yet we still haven't bought a new one for some reason, so I have to use this little thing...I had to start opening these cans as soon as I started the vegetables... it takes forever! and its a real workout for the thumb...Anyway...Pour all the cans in the pot, juice and all and stir.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAW66dRfOvSuCP20npTDhzUe7nuXfC5cgJdsHjk2NiMmEI3eetx8avlpX0SyADVhfqogYVSekhlMmceas-9a94_rWabWovyZeVL5gVNN21_-gcihDD2ZVtje55XBAKso_hKF3I8E0RxgA/s640/blogger-image-1303757414.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAW66dRfOvSuCP20npTDhzUe7nuXfC5cgJdsHjk2NiMmEI3eetx8avlpX0SyADVhfqogYVSekhlMmceas-9a94_rWabWovyZeVL5gVNN21_-gcihDD2ZVtje55XBAKso_hKF3I8E0RxgA/s400/blogger-image-1303757414.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
Now here's my cheat....a chili packet. Quick, easy, no fuss, and they come in different heat levels. Pour it in, and its done. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjImY0O1Fq-QyZGEfHXV0M_5Z9lrlU4766vtd0vI48mIHIM9PYgJyFkIMqrI0qKF_Qb_RSXQek7FOB3Y988Iz17r3Ww9G2ZdhC5IJJRxkY_b1Ckw6wqXkWffL2qA7yoIjCqmBBWkkyjafw/s640/blogger-image-1691654456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjImY0O1Fq-QyZGEfHXV0M_5Z9lrlU4766vtd0vI48mIHIM9PYgJyFkIMqrI0qKF_Qb_RSXQek7FOB3Y988Iz17r3Ww9G2ZdhC5IJJRxkY_b1Ckw6wqXkWffL2qA7yoIjCqmBBWkkyjafw/s400/blogger-image-1691654456.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, you just gotta let it simmer, so throw a top on it, reduce heat and cook for about an hour. <br />

<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1IbZcYoZUNRqyOjtmLEyk6eVOTKGnTXW5nn6LFFuaAwKSoBlphr18x_EMsYfo9dM0ip6Kc-2gK_R3gBE6u3P17DRnUQAuH_oHAzacBp2QrqF3J09YAlFc5xH0XqCE4AjzSigrmIi-UjI/s640/blogger-image-722439334.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1IbZcYoZUNRqyOjtmLEyk6eVOTKGnTXW5nn6LFFuaAwKSoBlphr18x_EMsYfo9dM0ip6Kc-2gK_R3gBE6u3P17DRnUQAuH_oHAzacBp2QrqF3J09YAlFc5xH0XqCE4AjzSigrmIi-UjI/s400/blogger-image-722439334.jpg" width="297" /></a>I am not a cook. I fucking hate it, and I suck at it. However, I am now being forced to learn how to fend for myself since my wonderful cook of a husband has to work most nights. This was my first time cooking Eggplant Parmesan, but it is something I have watched my husband cook a thousand times before, so I thought I could pull it off. First you need an eggplant, of course. This was a medium sized one. I sliced it lengthwise, had to be different... Cutting it in half first, then those halves in half. Two of these will have a whole side nothing but skin so slice the skin thinly to remove most of it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4nPcrjDu2HSv3K5_WmH4SrKc-_X8c8HVu4Unz5nFIT9tU9ouddz_mnqUMi9GtGNQox_DEcFNtx5dOd7qBU9xyQnJGQEa5_Z97gmx_Rm7CFxGPEXLbTv3XSz_FLBrqvAergOeaa2-nPBk/s640/blogger-image-1682830500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4nPcrjDu2HSv3K5_WmH4SrKc-_X8c8HVu4Unz5nFIT9tU9ouddz_mnqUMi9GtGNQox_DEcFNtx5dOd7qBU9xyQnJGQEa5_Z97gmx_Rm7CFxGPEXLbTv3XSz_FLBrqvAergOeaa2-nPBk/s320/blogger-image-1682830500.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The next step is VERY important,the salting of the eggplant. This is done to remove the moisture from inside the eggplant. Use a coarse salt like sea salt because you do not want the eggplant to absorb a lot of it. After salting both sides place on a rack for about 10-15 minutes. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsrjCNtYA2dwy9uNF_bcNdtzq6-5cDtskYAoBmayomab-DlCm_REi_jOQIaKn3WMIJ_HynX7TzdODBSfGL6sAC1wEGgdhCKUOCvCpq_5FJPmRKnIM-D8wzFV1tvpEMuRJcUthv-YD-PH0/s640/blogger-image-1584243391.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsrjCNtYA2dwy9uNF_bcNdtzq6-5cDtskYAoBmayomab-DlCm_REi_jOQIaKn3WMIJ_HynX7TzdODBSfGL6sAC1wEGgdhCKUOCvCpq_5FJPmRKnIM-D8wzFV1tvpEMuRJcUthv-YD-PH0/s400/blogger-image-1584243391.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
You will begin to see the water accumulate on the surface. Rinse the salt of and pat dry. Now it's ready to fry!!! So get your oil up to temp in a large pan. You will only need about a half inch of oil to fry in. Also turn your oven to 375. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe36gOqxuGS5VFoxxsQccJz-lnVJtFoNAk4dXVvEJ1_1HpeIrozYtpqMxfjEXylez2BAUjOloFGcD2KFdiBJuy5ZtMYk0_jz5Xd8Tgd9jIxDahaNIOX2IU8UuvSG6kWfw2EymGRooomrw/s640/blogger-image--734026948.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe36gOqxuGS5VFoxxsQccJz-lnVJtFoNAk4dXVvEJ1_1HpeIrozYtpqMxfjEXylez2BAUjOloFGcD2KFdiBJuy5ZtMYk0_jz5Xd8Tgd9jIxDahaNIOX2IU8UuvSG6kWfw2EymGRooomrw/s400/blogger-image--734026948.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
Like most breading processes, you will need three "stations". First is the flour, then a couple beaten eggs, and finally bread crumbs. Working with one piece at a time, coat an eggplant slice in flour, then dip it in the egg, then dredge it in the bread crumbs. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnOaxVGBzgRC7d1eCdzmd63Y2Ov28bU7zQOmmsNllSyUOMDUJk8y8JsjnVo0iFG8LFfEgupNGFSb28NL1kNk8ODZ60HS-V7BhxKjj2bgQOVvvOo_a_VDdQCWh9Kh75rb3DbcQEZ24Dqu4/s640/blogger-image--2122880529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnOaxVGBzgRC7d1eCdzmd63Y2Ov28bU7zQOmmsNllSyUOMDUJk8y8JsjnVo0iFG8LFfEgupNGFSb28NL1kNk8ODZ60HS-V7BhxKjj2bgQOVvvOo_a_VDdQCWh9Kh75rb3DbcQEZ24Dqu4/s400/blogger-image--2122880529.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
Then fry away! When they are golden on both sides, drain on some paper towels. While they are sitting, get out your baking dish, and coat the bottom with a little sauce. I used spaghetti sauce in a jar. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgklM1dG7jJ8nZnGDEer_Ge2NnWsQ7QF2Wzf-Xi2vvaem-oU9D9bLOf3wZ7ZybhxcsNs7uhHpiduAE-usLQQKyYVZpyeytX31kv0wMAgTrZ-e0hkKD2h_2C0ST6RfLmb9OmPuSuiEDcB_Y/s640/blogger-image--397611262.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgklM1dG7jJ8nZnGDEer_Ge2NnWsQ7QF2Wzf-Xi2vvaem-oU9D9bLOf3wZ7ZybhxcsNs7uhHpiduAE-usLQQKyYVZpyeytX31kv0wMAgTrZ-e0hkKD2h_2C0ST6RfLmb9OmPuSuiEDcB_Y/s400/blogger-image--397611262.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
Place the eggplant on the sauce...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0_B3sIRm_pmeKDc44E3oe8y68trLnRBaD8xQpV6Z1dgxFGwhK9f7UnazkD1ZUW_X3QZW9mBaQ5iO-SuP84DkOuhOHSuqxkdvqPPUjdAvj0Ohpwsvxgg-1U_lmZZaWiqAjH_UvXjFGWAo/s640/blogger-image--112113662.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0_B3sIRm_pmeKDc44E3oe8y68trLnRBaD8xQpV6Z1dgxFGwhK9f7UnazkD1ZUW_X3QZW9mBaQ5iO-SuP84DkOuhOHSuqxkdvqPPUjdAvj0Ohpwsvxgg-1U_lmZZaWiqAjH_UvXjFGWAo/s400/blogger-image--112113662.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
Top with more sauce and CHEESE!!! I used about a half of a bag of that "Italian blend"....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNq3KIiLKtSSbnhM-3_sRQDXbUeuyuLRcOd1AF02fb-m4rq-0hDQZUF30c1LN9mNeil6Ufgn-ng3_xeuyUe20z7MRFEdGmQ1kNS8PSxdnV1Rrrj2fqZaZARkjIPb4Bz9Djg4v-vTzz34/s640/blogger-image-1928625887.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNq3KIiLKtSSbnhM-3_sRQDXbUeuyuLRcOd1AF02fb-m4rq-0hDQZUF30c1LN9mNeil6Ufgn-ng3_xeuyUe20z7MRFEdGmQ1kNS8PSxdnV1Rrrj2fqZaZARkjIPb4Bz9Djg4v-vTzz34/s320/blogger-image-1928625887.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Throw it in the oven, bake for 10-15 minutes, until cheese is all bubbly delicious. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7btGQL9i95srwdKSY9skS3nRCby21_TQfNGst-BAusExslZa07XGdBlxlUrHo-Z16qbHaMvIpzCmkdQh_36ctDd82rCBuSs7mnZi0ky25uTyj-yQdojGMyCOav4RodCfW82sCeN2AeCc/s640/blogger-image-938424231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7btGQL9i95srwdKSY9skS3nRCby21_TQfNGst-BAusExslZa07XGdBlxlUrHo-Z16qbHaMvIpzCmkdQh_36ctDd82rCBuSs7mnZi0ky25uTyj-yQdojGMyCOav4RodCfW82sCeN2AeCc/s400/blogger-image-938424231.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
...and serve with spaghetti and a simple salad of greens with a red wine vinaigrette. So simple even I could pull it off!!! Fuck Yeah, look at that shit!!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
First off this little project is a rip off of a very popular, hipster yuppie, blog...... I thought it was cool nonetheless, and because I have recently (over the past couple months) started using honey as a sweetener and drinking shit loads of tea, I am beginning to acquire honey bear containers. So I thought, I should make these into cute little vases like those hipsters. However, in that blog, which shall remain nameless, they used gold leaf. Now I don't know about you, but I do not have gold leaf laying around, I am not that kinda girl, I do however have spray paint, cherry red spray paint, so that's how I am starting this little project. I also used my cell phone to take the photos in the demo, so they are really shitty quality (my real camera was dead) sorry....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdechP56LrwKKjVgc8PWPj4PG-eOppvImE8H3on67j4sPScFPJNiMzjm867q0n-Vq_9t-A-ExAr_cXSxUXq0u5hprDdq9PyEw1MXFWPxDz0ELUKnYLMesxuxNEInlSH6Mr7u-8WG8EOf0/s640/blogger-image-1451247311.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdechP56LrwKKjVgc8PWPj4PG-eOppvImE8H3on67j4sPScFPJNiMzjm867q0n-Vq_9t-A-ExAr_cXSxUXq0u5hprDdq9PyEw1MXFWPxDz0ELUKnYLMesxuxNEInlSH6Mr7u-8WG8EOf0/s320/blogger-image-1451247311.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
OK first off remove that eye sore cork screw top. If you cut it off right above the large rim, it will come off so perfectly that it will have a nice lip and no need to sand it down. I did this with a serrated knife. First I tried a x-acto knife, but those bears are thick. So, I moved on to my husbands fancy cutlery. <br />
(what he doesn't know won't hurt him....or his cutlery) <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEJJZhcvmwvgl8n7jJtjh57ksDR8NYU5q7VpEowoOEo7iM_AWUJ9MgmjZCYFOdRgNRqtKFpltDv6nXvAWYL7bPzrZ6GtYDnjQN_SgHsbX03czGzlfBqF_eqwJy8VuhE_eZ77x4QURPTbU/s640/blogger-image-1732470150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEJJZhcvmwvgl8n7jJtjh57ksDR8NYU5q7VpEowoOEo7iM_AWUJ9MgmjZCYFOdRgNRqtKFpltDv6nXvAWYL7bPzrZ6GtYDnjQN_SgHsbX03czGzlfBqF_eqwJy8VuhE_eZ77x4QURPTbU/s320/blogger-image-1732470150.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now, break out that spray paint, and lightly spray that honey bear down. I left it at one coat so its still kind of opaque and his cute little eyes and nose show through. <br />

They were glazed pottery, so I decided the best bet, DECOUPAGE the shit outta them. It's so easy, and quick, and the results can be quite drastic. Here's how I tuned redneck country into artsy eclectic<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7OAce42AWrpzAinF62x87VJBRajaV6ItlAvhQouF-3AZRy8lCur2pAvvAoDAZhlUk4vdWDa4cdbZ9W-CDvRzOwwWjkCVkgJQ7lY8LNOaxK1wHZyUp_JPCFayFC-g5EPQuZObkubnu2UE/s1600/blogger-image--1556429886.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7OAce42AWrpzAinF62x87VJBRajaV6ItlAvhQouF-3AZRy8lCur2pAvvAoDAZhlUk4vdWDa4cdbZ9W-CDvRzOwwWjkCVkgJQ7lY8LNOaxK1wHZyUp_JPCFayFC-g5EPQuZObkubnu2UE/s200/blogger-image--1556429886.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
First, make sure the item to be decoupaged is clean, also figure out the best way to approach the "covering" stage. I decided to keep the lip with green glaze exposed, as well as the green rim on the top. Also because of the shape, and because I wanted to cover the whole surface, not just slap on a cutout image, I decided to use hand torn strips to create more abstract images and patterns.<br />

<br />
I use Mod Podge. Now this is only the second time I've decoupaged something. I have only used Mod Podge, there may be something better to use, or a better way to do it....but this is how I am doing it!!!!! Also use a cheapo brush to apply it, it will make the brush tacky forever, so just keep this as your decoupage brush.<br />
<br />
<br />

OK, So take an image, here I am using vintage map book pages. I roughly ripped the paper into strips, thick ones and thinner ones, good to have variety for use later. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

Brush on a nice layer of the Mod Podge onto the back of the strip of paper.<br />

<br />
<br />
Flip it over and place it where you want it to stay, and brush on a nice coat of Mod Podge over the front. Using your finger, smooth out the edges, u may have to do some sliding around and creasing to match the contours of the object.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
I wanted the bottoms of the jars to not be covered, so I turned them over to dry, then went back while still a little tacky, and cut the excess paper off around the bottom edge with scissors and a razor blade.<br />

To finish them, I also decorated the lids, I cut out little images for each one, and did the same thing, coat the back...<br />

SlutWalk began in Toronto in 2011, in response to a remark made by a representative

</span></span></span>Showed their serious lack of knowledge (most
convicted rapists admit they don’t remember what the victim was wearing,
actually they mostly look at the shoes of the victim to determine the ability
to run away or fight back (break out those steel toed docs ladies!!!! )</li>
<li>Blamed the victim, it is such bullshit that the
POLICE would create a situation where they are telling women if they get rapped
it may be because of something SHE did. Fuck, it is ridiculous how many sexual assault
stories I have heard from women where the first thing they were asked by their “loved
ones” after telling them they were assaulted were things like “well, what were
you wearing” or “did you lead him on” or “you should have….(insert things such
as fight back, got away, not been there, not been alone, not have blah blah
blah blah) all that shit is victim blaming. They are taking someone who has
just had a horrible thing happen to them by some fucking asshole and instead of
comforting them, they are blaming them. When will people understand it is not
our fault! It is NEVER OUR FAULT!!! Don’t fucking act like or insinuate I asked
for what was done to me, or I wanted it.</li>
<li><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"></span>Shamed women’s sexuality, bodies, and choice to
wear what the hell ever we want. Slut shaming needs to end. A woman’s sexual promiscuity
is no one’s business and does not warrant a sexual assault against them. The term
slut itself carries a negative connotation, used as an insult, aimed predominantly
AT WOMEN! Why should a women be judged by how often or infrequent she has sex,
or by how many lovers she chooses to take or not to take. It is a personal
choice. Sexual pleasure should not be shameful nor should it have negative cogitations
associated with it. Women have lived with that shit for millennium, it needs to
stop. </li>

showed what society at large believes and feels. This is why SlutWalks are
taking place all over the world, from New York to London to India. If you area
a survivor ask yourself, were you made to feel shame, in any way in the wake of
your assault, or now, even if it has been decades, do you still feel ashamed or
at fault? Why do you feel that? What made you/who made you feel that way? If
you are not a survivor, is your friend, your family member, your partner? How did
you react when they told you? How did others react? Do you find your answers startling?
Insightful? Eye opening? </div>

would consider slutty attire, though it really wasn’t much different then what I
would normally wear on a night out. I had my sign, spray painted with lyrics
from bikini kill and 7 year bitch, I had my best slut friend by my side, and we
marched with other liked minded individuals, of all ages, races, gender
expressions and orientations. We chanted and screamed and paraded, and then we
shared our stories. Well, I didn’t share mine, I couldn’t bring myself to stand
in front of so many people and tell my stories. But other women came forward
and they were the most heart wrenching things imaginable. There was this one young
woman who came forward, and in her I saw myself. Like me her innocence and
child hood was taken from her early on. Like me, she became a hollow shell of
herself, like me she blamed and physically punished herself. Like me she still
has all those scars. I cried for her, and all those other women, and for myself
and my friends. And looked around to see the circle of people surrounding me,
all with tears and anger and relief in their eyes, it was an experience like no
other. It was possibly one of the single most moving experiences in my life.</div>

"Norfolk Dirt" get arrested. Now don’t judge me, cause ya know I have
no respect for pigs, but man seeing that dumb ass get arrested was so fucking
AWESOME. Long story short, this dumb ass, well known for his anti PETA antics,
decided to take a personal stand against SlutWalk. He did this by insults,
propaganda, harassment, and showing up to the walk with his little notebook filming
his exploits, all the while having a warrant out for his arrest. So the cops
snagged him. You can see his video shenanigans <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nKrVZ3CgHs">here</a>. I especially liked
the fact that he ignores and does not reply to the questions asked by the woman
he encounters at the back of the line, then prompts her to “keep speaking” to
get her message out, while she patiently waits for his explanations. What a scum bag.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;"><b>update!!!! </b><span style="color: white;">The "scum bag" is dead!!! He was shot and killed in a drug store, allegedly he cut in line, acted like an asshole, peppered spray the guy then pulled his gun. Having seen how arrogant, confrontational, and unstable this dude was, I totally believe this guys story, and his self defense plea</span></span><span style="color: white;">. The guy is out on bail, read about it <a href="http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/crime/rite-aid-shooting-suspect-to-be-released" target="_blank">here</a>.</span></div>

<br />
WOW......... <br />
<br />
This book was amazing! <span id="btAsinTitle">The book was written by Robert Kirkman (the man, the myth, the legend) and Jay Bonansinga (his debut novel </span>The Black Mariah was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award ooooo..... ahhhhhh) and I read this shit in two sittings, that's how good it was.<br />
<br />
<br />
Those of you familiar with the Walking Dead comic book series will recognize the "Governor", the crazy, cut throat, torturing rapist, diesal ass mofo in charge of the town of Woodburry. Well, this book is the story of how he becomes the Governor, not just in name but in mind, body, and soul (or the lack there of).<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
It is nonstop action and shows one man's decent into madness, another man's struggle with loyalty and righteousness, and another man's struggle with his own cowardliness and weakness; all the while trying to keep a little girl safe, sane, and feed. Full of gains and losses, bad mistakes and near misses, opportunities and twists of fate, and of course tons of blood, guts, and gore.<br />

I watched this tonight on netflix, and it was so good! I found out after watching it that it's actually a squeal to a movie called <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1262413/" target="_blank">Offspring</a>. But I watched <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1714208/" target="_blank">"The Woman"</a> and totally enjoyed it without having seen the first one. The movie begins with this creepy dude finding a feral woman in the woods, he captures her, takes her home to his family, ties her up in a shed with the goal of trying to civilize her (or so he clams). Then all hell breaks lose!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnvSzTbftVCgcqiE8XsnG3cVThrqWKqUITS9T-XERYRzPaN5zHHUgN-tZp-jVJXE5LpwBjAaZdqMN7Vl-PwxnO8tJHB9KOjj_65HITrc86FekC_Bb6l8MQh0IrncVxfTEHV0sHMRvXYvE/s1600/wo.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnvSzTbftVCgcqiE8XsnG3cVThrqWKqUITS9T-XERYRzPaN5zHHUgN-tZp-jVJXE5LpwBjAaZdqMN7Vl-PwxnO8tJHB9KOjj_65HITrc86FekC_Bb6l8MQh0IrncVxfTEHV0sHMRvXYvE/s400/wo.png" width="400" /></a>The actress who plays the "woman" (Pollyanna McIntosh) embodies the role so freaking well. Her body language, and her facial expressions, everything, is just perfect. She is a amazon of a woman, she is fucking wild!!!! totally in love with her.<br />
The quality of the film is really good too. Who ever was in charge of the lighting, is a fucking genius. There's one scene at the beginning where the woman is in a cave, and only her eyes and the bridge of her nose are visible, its so primal. In another scene, the mother (played by Angela Bettis, you know <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303361/" target="_blank">May</a>!!! love her!!!) anyway in this one scene she kind of slinks up from the back ground into her daughters room and its soooo fucking creepy, just because of the way its lit.<br />
The sound track is weird though, it's one of those movies where the music at first doesn't seem to really match whats going on, but then you realize it makes the scenes even more thrilling by the strange juxtaposition. The ending is pretty fucking classic too, throwing a real twist on everything. Now I have GOT to see the first one, and hope there will be a third!<br />
<span style="color: red;">UPDATE:<span style="color: white;"> </span></span><span style="color: black;">I turn on Chiller and behold, they are playing Offspring AND the woman, back to back. So I get to watch the offspring, however, it's edited....so all the T&A is </span><span style="color: white;">blurred out....boooooo.....but it was pretty good, not as good as the sequel, but alright. much more low budget and the cinematography isn't as good, but its got some cool parts.</span>DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-87702578614004683532012-05-05T22:44:00.001-07:002012-05-07T09:45:12.961-07:00You Gotta See It: The Divide<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We rented this movie last night from redbox and I thought it was pretty awesome. It's one of those movies where the whole time you're urging the main character to just KILL EVERYONE! The plot of the movie is simple, a nuclear bomb is dropped in a city, a group of strangers end up together in a bomb shelter in the basement of their apartment building, add in some creepy military government plot that causes these people to be locked in, and mofo's start getting crazy and start suffering from fallout, shit gets intense. The movie's point is to show how desperate people will do desperate things, and people will grasp for power and control over others when in a shitty situaton they have no power or control over. Makes you question, were these people crazy to begin with or does their environment make them so? Would you fall in line, bow down, even give your body to those stronger than you, even if its for protection, for food, or for peace. Would you do your share of the dirty work? In the end are you just as self-serving and cutthroat as those you condemn?DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-31699522569519299202012-05-04T16:36:00.000-07:002012-05-04T16:37:13.899-07:00Eat Me: Salad<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The easiest, yet most delicious salad you could EVER make is so simple even I can do it. All you need is: <br />
<ul>
<li>Strawberries sliced </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Spinach </li>
</ul>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJPVWGfVthUr_rvApay0NQfr0yfsRDar95yVgiqu2n5NjCmfg1W5nfl1b7D077x-01P1NjIDrkeg6sEyqBPFS9tYkGdklP8aP-ewJ3Vp5pGUP_v4S818-bZiJET3T6jlitcnIUsfi-acE/s640/blogger-image-1880325625.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJPVWGfVthUr_rvApay0NQfr0yfsRDar95yVgiqu2n5NjCmfg1W5nfl1b7D077x-01P1NjIDrkeg6sEyqBPFS9tYkGdklP8aP-ewJ3Vp5pGUP_v4S818-bZiJET3T6jlitcnIUsfi-acE/s320/blogger-image-1880325625.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<ul>
<li>Red Onion sliced</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Olive Oil</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Balsamic Vinegar (a good bottle) </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Salt and Sugar (pinch of each)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Place the strawberries and onion in a bowl and sprinkle with salt and sugar. Pour some balsamic over it then some oil. Taste. Add oil and/or balsamic as needed to make the dressing, just keep tasting it so u don't get it too oily. Toss it, and pour over a bed of fresh spinach.... And enjoy!!! <br />
<br />
You can also do a simple citrus salad just as easy but instead of strawberries use mandarin oranges that come in those little cups and instead of balsamic use red wine vinegar and a splash of the liquid from the orange cup. Just don't use any sugar or salt. Throw in the red onion and pour over spinach. <br />

I was learning as I went, but they came out awesome. You will need:<br />
<ul>
<li>the embroidery...duhh</li>
<li>a wooden hoop (painted a cool color and sealed with a fixative)</li>
<li>a piece or thin fabric (for the back)</li>
<li>iron</li>
<li>towels</li>
<li>pillowcase</li>
<li>dish liquid</li>
</ul>
Ok, first things first, you have to clean the piece, so fill up a sink with lukewarm water and a tiny bit of dish soap.....and swoosh the embroidery around a little, don't go too crazy....<br />
<br />

Now you have to pat it dry some, so place it in between two towels and pat away....Depending on the fabric you may have to let it sit in between those towels awhile, you want the fabric damp not wet. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Now its time to iron. Place your embroidery on a pillowcase, and with your iron on the correct setting, mine was on the highest cotton setting, start ironing. its a good idea to start it off by ironing it in between two pillowcases first to make sure your iron isn't too hot. then move on to ironing it straight up with the iron. iron it face down first then flip it. if your piece is really 3 dimensional, and you don't want to flatten it or it's really delicate or done on some fancy ass fabric, then keep it between the pillow cases and don't bare down too hard, mine didn't matter so I ironed the fuck outta it. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
Now its time to frame! Place the outer hoop where you want it, and flip it over, then place that piece of back fabric down, this makes it look cool and protects all those loose and crazy threads back there. Now place the inner hoop and push it down. You will have to tighten the fabric and stretch them so its smooth on the front, if you embroider you already know all about that shit. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Trim the excess fabric now. the back fabric can be cut pretty close to the hoop, but the embroidered fabric needs enough over hang to fold down the inside edge of the hoop. </div>

You can decide now if you want to iron the fabric overhang over the hoop so its easier to glue or not, the first one I glued I didn't iron but the rest I did, I found it faster to have it creased. Anyway, get your glue, I used this shit I found at the craft store, its pretty awesome. </div>

So, run an edge of glue on the top lip of the inner hoop as well as around the inside edge. Do it a few inches at a time. Fold and smooth the fabric down over the hoop to secure. </div>

So I bought 4. When I got home I began painting my bones and and while doing that had a great idea on what to do with the frames. I rushed out to the store and bought some stick on letters, then on each frame I spelled out the title of the piece. Then spray painted the whole frame black so when I peel off the letters the gold is left behind. I also decided to paint the embroidery hoops the same red as the bones, so they have come continuity within the grouping.DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-61235197772785507072012-04-12T19:17:00.001-07:002012-04-18T14:58:55.019-07:00Art?: Crunch Time<br />

I only had two Lino blocks carved (war and famine) and one print ready for framing (famine). So I have been frantically carving another block (pestilence) printed the other initial block (war) I had previously carved, hand embroidered two anatomy drawings (rib cage and pelvic), harvested a decomposed deer and peroxided the bones. But that's only the beginning, still on my to do list: fix my third carving (pestilence) and reprint it, carve the last limo block and print it (death), embroider two more pieces (phalanges and skull), paint the deer bones ( red enamel), paint the picture frames (black) and embroidery hoops (black), get to Jerry's to buy some mats, affix bones to frames, frame all four prints and all four embroideries.... and if I get all that done with time to spare I may do a few more stitched body parts, like a uterus or a vagina or some shit. The only thing is I have to hand over 30 percent of my sales, so I have to jack up the prices of my stuff, which fucking sucks. The only way I thought people would even consider buying my stuff was if it was cheap! So I doubt I will sell anything. <br />

This is because, the lead singer of the Throwing Muses uses her own lyrical-esque story telling to create this surreal look back at a time of her life that was fantastical and hyper, full of hallucinations, and self discovery, and music that lived and forced its way out of her small frame as if possessed. See Kristin is a synesthete. She see's colors as a result of hearing music. She also, following a hit and run accident, began to constantly "hear music" which would haunt her until she played it and gave it substance. Add this to a girl with a crazy high IQ, who was raised by hippies, who was lead singer in a truly unique band, who was diagnosed with manic depression, who carried an imaginary snake around in a bag.. And who got knocked up young while still playing shows and recording their first record.... Add all that up with some of the most poetic characters imaginable, and well, you have quite an extraordinary read. S/N....I just wrote this blog on my phone, using some free blogger app, hopefully it publishes correctly if not I will fix it later :pDeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-20784030756784528962012-02-11T09:58:00.000-08:002012-02-11T09:58:01.663-08:00Slightly Greenish Thumb: Fittonia<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvipj5fA2RZKVYCjxlgLcNQ9SGLnFeNqxMMknSgjA3zdNMY-JFDE_GTDUcdfJmaz-TTeyfnYofw09TPAy0RF_DiQaL_M0THzzJ7P49lPPnE59wy74FWciGC5fHoNIXHojbH-Sik-Gnm-g/s1600/IMG_5731.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvipj5fA2RZKVYCjxlgLcNQ9SGLnFeNqxMMknSgjA3zdNMY-JFDE_GTDUcdfJmaz-TTeyfnYofw09TPAy0RF_DiQaL_M0THzzJ7P49lPPnE59wy74FWciGC5fHoNIXHojbH-Sik-Gnm-g/s640/IMG_5731.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>AKA...Nerve plant, Mosaic plant, Silver net plant, Lace leaf, Painted net leaf, and Snakeskin plant. This is a low light, worry free plant, just the way I like it. All you need to do is remember to water it, which inst hard cause the leaves will get all wilted, but will perk right back up with a little H2O. I love the look of this thing, with its bright green and pink leaves. Another cool thing about this plant it that it is also pest free! and you can find them cheap at any place with a gardening section, this one I got from Wally World for a dollars (I had too...I seen it there with no light and water all sad looking and I had to bring it home to nurse it back to health, I also got a silver veined one but that one didn't make it)DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-3188582860339986192012-02-11T09:43:00.000-08:002012-02-11T09:43:47.596-08:00Thrift Store Score: Owl Planter<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjfcehG4cPSwxQ5Hp4noSW6k3K_gOSdH6w2pBi32P2qU3LQaFDk1LPCO5E4DXo_ER5Yy0mRR84ahowIb0EOepGq0shyphenhyphenOmm5NYu3Kdm4D57HGDSKC9L6D6NNWONYwrlCCVw4CC3NQ42eC4/s1600/IMG_5668.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="322" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjfcehG4cPSwxQ5Hp4noSW6k3K_gOSdH6w2pBi32P2qU3LQaFDk1LPCO5E4DXo_ER5Yy0mRR84ahowIb0EOepGq0shyphenhyphenOmm5NYu3Kdm4D57HGDSKC9L6D6NNWONYwrlCCVw4CC3NQ42eC4/s400/IMG_5668.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpBMG3rHvrNlsKKj60xnV0aHCKdVP70f92krccvA-GfRD_hgYVM0mI6ufNNtDnMtfJU1xiznWmMAnNCnKszjDAH_K3BmQkyqKnXgblnDxrLiV4knYizbbrCy8sMfeaMmv9mo192vm1J4o/s1600/IMG_5684.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpBMG3rHvrNlsKKj60xnV0aHCKdVP70f92krccvA-GfRD_hgYVM0mI6ufNNtDnMtfJU1xiznWmMAnNCnKszjDAH_K3BmQkyqKnXgblnDxrLiV4knYizbbrCy8sMfeaMmv9mo192vm1J4o/s400/IMG_5684.jpg" width="400" /></a>At the same place where I found those wooden deer, I also came across this adorable owl planter for a dollar. It was ugly, but I knew I could hook it up. Originally, it looked like it was horribly painted with a terracotta slip, so I decided to paint it with a Chinese red enamel paint, to give it the high gloss, glazed pottery look.<br />

It turned out BEAUTIFUL. I don't know the age of it, probably 70's, on the bottom it says "japan" and the closest resemblance to anything I came across was <a href="http://cache1.bigcartel.com/product_images/46236485/owl1a.jpg" target="_blank">this</a>, tho the wings are different and mine has ears, so I am thinking mine is a replica of that original design. Ironically that one is white on terracotta and mine was the opposite.DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-74809113722653603152012-02-11T09:16:00.000-08:002012-02-11T09:44:56.804-08:00Thrift Store Score: Grazing FawnsWhile at the local Friends of the Library Book Sale, I noticed an open air flea market had set up across the street. Looking like a bunch of shit from where I was standing, I decide to go check it out anyway. Thankfully I did.... Behold the cutest hand carved wooden deer EVER!!!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdX5sA80t3LUc3MDlsJFLIWffRf6sQ127wa-FcQn7cR0Fzlkra_77LhDA-NRwqYkfpqxPRe-PkmcXhmvGLsT3gpBRruzf6Y7zzkJ1pdTME1PAwPeNVrGjyQAMrl_oAEFahlL2U0430VsI/s1600/IMG_5772.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdX5sA80t3LUc3MDlsJFLIWffRf6sQ127wa-FcQn7cR0Fzlkra_77LhDA-NRwqYkfpqxPRe-PkmcXhmvGLsT3gpBRruzf6Y7zzkJ1pdTME1PAwPeNVrGjyQAMrl_oAEFahlL2U0430VsI/s320/IMG_5772.jpg" width="320" /></a>They need some work however. I plan on cleaning them up sanding them down and re-staining them. They have some scratches and nicks and one has paint and candle wax dripped down its butt and side. Their antlers are also broken off, but I think I can find something to replace them with, even if its just twigs. I can't tell what were originally there but it seems like some sort of bone or antler.<br />
These two buddies are huge too, measuring in at about 15" high and 7" across. I have no idea how old they are or where they came from, I have never seen anything like them before. However the way they are painted and the designs carved in them they seem like the may be from India or surrounding areas....the closet thing to them I found were <a href="http://uk.ebid.net/for-sale/vintage-wooden-treen-carved-mother-baby-deer-cmtall-44005877.htm" target="_blank">these</a> hailing from a seller in the UK, and like mine, it is also missing its horns. I got these both for a dollar (after complaining they were missing their horns).DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-13163275146159431112012-01-04T17:45:00.000-08:002012-02-11T10:08:12.190-08:00Craft Time: Specimen JarsFor this past Halloween, my art collective helped to decorate for a Halloween party. It was my duty to make, among other cool things, specimen jars. I had glass jars filled with all kinds of stuff, like a weird neon glowing monster (made from a child's squid toy turned inside out) and food coloring; a headless deformed fetus (made from a squishy rhino toy I cut the head off and painted a flesh tone) floating in water with a little coffee in it to make it murky; a jar filled with reddish black liquid and spaghetti to look like worms; a plastic rat in a jar; and these three beauties I decided to keep on my mantel all year long!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZIMtsRF0D0Vp7dPFwybeh2O5E8qI93Se-iZwtS7eV7GZ6H5ZOQX9_F5rrp6H5aQTPbAU_QJyk0VcbJJLMdFmKr4v0jWJFpCG7iGqywlp9NO6E8s60xwNhkPgsYE-2pu4nr78yIXoXUtM/s1600/IMG_5484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZIMtsRF0D0Vp7dPFwybeh2O5E8qI93Se-iZwtS7eV7GZ6H5ZOQX9_F5rrp6H5aQTPbAU_QJyk0VcbJJLMdFmKr4v0jWJFpCG7iGqywlp9NO6E8s60xwNhkPgsYE-2pu4nr78yIXoXUtM/s400/IMG_5484.JPG" width="400" /></a></div> <br />
For the Death Moths I painted silk butterflies on wire to look like death moths and positioned them so, gluing the wire in place on a circular piece of cardboard and covered it with reindeer moss. I then had a broken stem wineglass I was keeping to make a terrarium out of, and used that to cover the moths. This i also hot glued to the cardboard bottom.<br />
For he Praying Mantis i took a plastic toy and painted it, hot glued it ono a stick but it inside a upside down jelly jar and threw some moss in the bottom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpjg0RpiThSdPlHH0Eo-eU8Ql_g5pMJUh_DlbVC3tDNO8Cd-xlDyZL3kJYaxK9CSPRtfQKJ1Op4XzMi3qlxmObu6biKa7D7lmMeslYvmhAKYqVj-PZIIMtjyBEN_eXQBgJzYfn1IovdPA/s1600/IMG_5486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpjg0RpiThSdPlHH0Eo-eU8Ql_g5pMJUh_DlbVC3tDNO8Cd-xlDyZL3kJYaxK9CSPRtfQKJ1Op4XzMi3qlxmObu6biKa7D7lmMeslYvmhAKYqVj-PZIIMtjyBEN_eXQBgJzYfn1IovdPA/s400/IMG_5486.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>For the Raven, I bought a dollar tree Halloween bird, glued it onto a stick, wedged it into a storage jar, and threw in some more reindeer moss. I also made specimen tags for all of my jars. For these I went online a searched for old turn of the century medical labels, stained them with coffee, filled them out with witty names, dates, just what ever info I thought would be cool, and pasted them on the side of the jars. They were fun to make and at the party, combined with glow sticks, they were quite breath taking. The next day, the host texted me saying that while cleaning up (and being hung over) she almost vomited when she took a closer look at some of them, hahahaaha, mission accomplished!!!!!DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-65871384869066165232012-01-03T20:37:00.000-08:002012-01-04T17:03:43.548-08:00Slightly Greenish Thumb: TerrariumsI put together a few terrariums recently. It all started with the finding of some great glass bowls at a thrift store for 50 cent.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Yk4suLbV6Xx9lESMW0e2KlTO8TeXQnvmdxIsujLwcuz6WrsBlnyrelWm_HnckV2qK82SJ51182y16aQeGjUxXpUJ-tWLxp9OXj6ib7d29G9WhQuUJ0vFcJfqULRngRfM0HYzXaU-ujY/s1600/IMG_5476.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Yk4suLbV6Xx9lESMW0e2KlTO8TeXQnvmdxIsujLwcuz6WrsBlnyrelWm_HnckV2qK82SJ51182y16aQeGjUxXpUJ-tWLxp9OXj6ib7d29G9WhQuUJ0vFcJfqULRngRfM0HYzXaU-ujY/s400/IMG_5476.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
One I filled with about four different types of moss I collect from sidewalks, parking lots, and swamps. I made a put down a layer of soil, then the mosses, and to top it off I added a bird skull, a feather, and a petrified rib bone. For the holidays I wanted to get festive so I added the red berries, and I loved the way the contrasted so I just left them.<br />

This type of aloe is a stemless variety and will bloom. I am hoping it will grow to dwarf the bowl, and look like a small little root ball anchoring this huge spiky plant.DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227117597798964081.post-86236869778422776532012-01-02T17:01:00.000-08:002012-01-02T17:01:27.731-08:00Hiatus....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7ZLtIrX4EuoZHvoQPIGpj4b5msLOkL4_BIUi_x9DdfX8Mc0og8IU0Z4OkkF0blCseMUafFHmPFSV8F3OsF0cj7s66x2Sne0Qt1BrXHWor2sJk6IZ-OphcXU6yVqbYnqnv_4OH7ceqALs/s1600/IMG_5455.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7ZLtIrX4EuoZHvoQPIGpj4b5msLOkL4_BIUi_x9DdfX8Mc0og8IU0Z4OkkF0blCseMUafFHmPFSV8F3OsF0cj7s66x2Sne0Qt1BrXHWor2sJk6IZ-OphcXU6yVqbYnqnv_4OH7ceqALs/s320/IMG_5455.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><span style="font-size: x-large;">But now I am back bitches.... I make SURE I always have candles to blow out and I never told anyone what that wish was, incase it wouldn't come true if I did. This year however, I decided I would not make that wish. See, this wish, which was always the same, was "please, let Spit live one more year". Spit was my dog, I have had her sense I was 21. This past year she became very sick. She has been crippled with a neurological disorder and went on medication that extended her mobility some what for the past 6 months. However, for the past month and a half she has gotten progressivly worse, and I had to help her walk, eat, drink, got out side, go potty, everything. So I decided I would not wish for another year, and I would just wish that she will have an easy way out. Well, today, two days before I was to make that wish, she passed away, at home, in the bedroom, with us and our other dogs sleeping next to her, and even tho its fucking killing me, I am so grateful that she went out on her own. No rushing her to the vet, no deciding when the time is right to put her to sleep, no having her die in my arms after giving her that shot. No leaving her in some sterile cold vet hospital. Now I just have to wait to pick up her ashes. Fuck I am going to miss her.DeeComposedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02004661063337248685noreply@blogger.com0
